Google has bought Jaiku today - Jaiku being the site which keeps a status like tab that you can update. Users can then use Jaiku on their mobiles so that when looking up contacts like a phone book, they can get more meaningful statuses according to their current Jaiku. The merger obviously forms part of Google's strategy to aquire value added mobile functionality.
