Active Ingredients:
- Clobetasol propionate
Therapeutic actions: Dermovate cream exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effect. The drug glucocorticoid activity which is more expressed then in natural hormones. The drug is used locally decreases swelling, hyperemia and itching in the place of application. But even if used locally systemic effects may manifest. The drug is mainly metabolized in the liver and a part of it is metabolized by the kidneys. The drug is excreted with urine.
Indications: Dermovate cream is used in treatment of different forms of psoriasis, chronic eczema, lichen planus, discoid lupus erythematosus, skin diseases if other corticosteroids where not effective.
Contraindications and cautions: The drug is contraindicated in the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation
- Acne rosacea
- Peri oral dermatitis
- Bacterial, viral or fungal skin infections
- Genital and perianal itching
- Pregnancy
- Lacataion period
- In children before the second year
The preparation is intended for short term use. In certain cases the course of treatment may be repeated. The treatment should be monitored by a health care professional. The skin should be cleaned before application.
Adverse effects: There are possible side-effects associated with this medicine that can affect individuals in different ways. If a side effect is stated here, that does not necessarily mean the fact that all people using Dermovate cream will experience it or any other. The side-effects include:
- Burning
- Skin itching
- Steroidal acne
- Skin dryness
In long-term treatment:
- Skin atrophy
- Local hirsutism
- Pigmentation problems
- Decrease in barrier function of skin
If used on large surfaces then systemic side-effects can exert:
- Gastritis
- Gastro-intestinal ulcers
- Increased intra-ocular pressure
- Symptoms of hypercorticism
