Artfire Artisan Spotlight: Diann Morris, AuntieDis
First off, please write a short paragraph explaining what brought you to crafting and the importance of your craft in your life.
I started making candles about 10 years ago. I was a diehard Yankee Candle fanatic, but they just suddenly weren't doing it for me. So I researched a lot, and after much trial and error, here I am! Other than that, you could say I have an addictive type personality, only for me beads and paper are my drug of choice. Of course I had to find something to do with all these supplies that were overtaking my house. I taught myself how to make jewelry and every now and then I dabble in paper crafts, just enough to warrant purchasing more and more supplies. I don't really want to use my stash, but I'd have a very upset hubby if I didn't. Crafting also keeps me sane during long, sleepless nights while my husband is deployed.
If there’s one thing that defines you, what is it?
I'm the crazy aunt that always comes to your family reunions and is causing a ruckus, getting drunk, dancing on the tables, trying to coax everyone down to the tattoo shop to get a new tattoo....yup, that's me.
Where did you learn to craft?
I am completely self-taught. I started out about 10 years ago making candles. I was a diehard Yankee Candle fanatic, but they just weren't doing it for me. After much research and trial and error, I finally did it! The jewelry making and the paper crafting came into play about 6 years later. I taught myself by a lot of Google searches and trade magazines.
What is your favorite craft supplier?
Do I have to choose just one? I love all the lampwork artisans that I have met so far. I also love to scope out my local craft shops (we have four in a 1 mile radius here locally) for paper goodies.
