Looking to be a be a little more involved in your experience? Then enter your own porn movie into their annual competition, and share your pleasure with the world. The only requirements are that they are 30 minutes long (no more, no less), and that they be submitted to the festival for viewing by May 20th, or else you will be disqualified.

If you are looking for some famous names that will be present, you will not be disappointed. Quite a few well known porn names drop in for the fun, one of the main ones being Rocco Siffredi, who manages to make it nearly every year. Known for his work in pornographic films as both a model, and a director, Rocco Siffredi is one of the biggest names in the industry. From anal, to latex, to rough sex, his videos span across the spectrum, and it is always an honor to see one of the best present at an event like it.

The Galapagos Islands are a volcanic archipelago at 970 km from mainland Ecuador, which is the nearest piece of land. 97 % of the islands is a natural reserve with a fragile ecological balance and many endemic species.

You can discover Ecuador playing the young naturalist Charles Darwin, who searched these islands and created his notorious Theory of Evolution of species by natural selection.  It is not easy, as the archipelago spreads over 220 km  and consists of 13 main islands, 6 smaller islands and 107 rocks and islets. On all these islands there many endangered species  as seals, fregates, iguanas, sea lions, whales, marine turtles. 170 years ago when Darwin searched the islands, there was practically no human there. Today, there are 40 000 people living on the islands. All these inhabitants, together with the mass tourism do a lot of harm to the animals and plants of the Galapagos Islands. Nevertheless, the animals are still fearless against humans.

The islands are situated on the both sides of Ecuator, but the weather is not very hot as expected, due to the Humboldt current, which is chilling them. Once at a few years El Nino brings hot weather and heavy rainfall.

You can reach the islands by plane, landing in airport of Baltra Island. The plane tickets from the mainland Ecuador costs 400 $. You can also reach the Galapagos islands by sea, in the ports Puerto Baqueiro Morena or Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz islands. There are 70000 tourists coming every year on Galapagos Islands. They enjoy excellent conditions for surfing and can also discover the wildlife in the natural parks ( daily fee is 100 $) sleeping in the hotel Orca in San Cristobal for 90 $ a night. Organized multiday cruise ship cost 4230 bringing you in the most remoted parts of the islands.

The fascinating island of Madagascar

Madagascar is the world’s fourth big island. It is located in the Indian Ocean and has a surface a little bigger than France.

Madagascar formed through splitting from Gondwana 160  millions year ago, and then splitting from India(80 millions years ago). Due to its isolation many species of plants and animals from Madagascar can only be met on this islands ( e.g. the lemur monkies). Unfortunately, within last decades in Madagascar appeared environmental problems, which led to diminishing and extinction of some endangered species.

mapThe population of Madagascar came from three different directions:

-from Africa, a black bantu population, which is today almost a half of the population

-from Asia and Oceania an austronesian population, is today also a half of the population, and the Merina, an asian originar tribe, is the chief here in Madagascar

-from Europe, mainly from France, but the descendants of this population are to neglect as number.

In the XVIIIth century Madagascar was an inportant pirates nest, and nowadays in Tana is emerging a piracy museum, which is surely unique.

There is no mass tourism in Madagascar, you must discover it on your own. The island is unspoilt, and therefore more interesting. The soil of the island is latheritic, and that’s why some  people name Madagascar as the Red Island. The country’s most important road leads from the capital Tana to the south for 1000 km and its name is Route National Sept( which are the other six ?) . There is a train too in Madagascar, and I would recommend you to try this experience. The train leads from Tana to Antsirabe, where the colonial glance is still to be seen. Don’t fear about posible catastrophe, here everybody says “Mura, mura” (slowly) and this is the local way of life.

Along Route Nationale Sept there are endless rice plantations. Madagascar is world’s biggest vanilla producer, and when Coca Cola renounced to the recipe Vanila Ice gave a serious hit to Madagascar.

In the south of the island you can swimm and do other water sports (Madagascar could become a divers’ paradise) despite the lacking beaches.  Do not miss to visit the Isalo Natinal Park, where you can find The Relais de la Reine Hotel and Bungalows, which is a recommendable site.

10 Must Know Japanese Customs

One of the biggest mistakes Westerners make when visiting foreign countries is to neglect learning about the key elements that differ in culture, and no differences are so glaring then those in Japan. The Japanese are a proud people, steeped in tradition and culture, and it’s important to get a grasp on those customs most cherished by Japanese society, especially if you wish to experience your visit in a positive way. Not to mention leave a positive memory to the people you came into contact with along the way.
Here are the 10 customs you must know about before hopping on that plane and making your way to the incredible country of Japan.

Greetings and Showing Respect.

japanesecustomsbowinghead

Usually the people of Japan will hold a much lower standard for tourists when it comes to the correct way of greeting a local. Bowing your head or giving a slight bend at the waist is usually plenty to show that you respect them, which is a crucial factor of Japanese culture.

You should also be careful to use the proper titles when speaking to anyone you come into contact with. “Mr” or “Mrs.” won’t suffice here. Instead, adding the title ’san’ or ’sama’ to the end of the name is considered appropriate. When addressing children, no title is usually needed, but you can use the term ‘chan’ when addressing young girls, or ‘kun’ for young boys, which is usually keyed more as a note of affection then of status.
Meal Etiquette.

japanesecustomsmeals

There are quite a few standards to follow when eating a meal in Japan, and it’s never the casual affair it is in the West.

First of all, you will be given a hot, wet towel at most restaurants, and occasionally in people’s homes as well. Never use these to clean your face, or any other part of your body besides your hands. Just wipe your hands gently prior to eating, and set it aside.

When the drinks are brought out, don’t sip it until after everyone has been served, and someone has made a small speech.

Just before you begin eating, always take a moment to say “itadakimasu”, which means “I will now receive”.

It’s considered polite to hold bowels up to your face, rather then drop food down to the table, so feel free to lift smaller bowls up to your mouth when you dig in. Also, noisy eating (within reason) is encouraged, especially with food like noodles, where it is difficult not to slurp.

Tipping.

I know that in the West it’s considered a high crime not to leave a good sized tip wherever you sit down to eat, but this is not the case in Japan. It’s considered offensive, and if you think about it from their point of view, it’s not that hard to see why. Think of it as throwing money around, showing your wealth. Would you walk into a fast food place and throw down $20 for a burger when it costs $0.99? They see it in much the same way. And this also goes for any other service you could possible conceive of.
Using Chopsticks.

japanesecustomschopsticks

Not everywhere in Japan uses chopsticks for their utensils, which may surprise you, but enough do that you will want to learn before going. Don’t worry, it isn’t difficult, and once you have eaten once or twice with these little wooden skewers you’ll be able to do it in your sleep.

Not only will learning to use chopsticks just be easier for you once you get to Japan, but it’s worth it for the looks of shock you’ll get from the locals who are convinced foreigners can’t pick up on such subtle facets of Japanese society.
Entering the Home.

I am sure that most are aware of the Japanese custom of taking off your shoes before entering a home, but did you know that you should also do this in any other building that offers some kind of shoe rack? A lot of places ask for you to strip off your dirty shoes before going any further, so take care of those feet! It’s not considered very polite to expose the rest of the guests to bad foot odor, after all.

You will also want to pay close attention to the slipper protocol. For instance, you might want to bring a small pair with you before going into someone’s home, although many will have guest slippers available for you. There are also bathroom slippers, which should only be used in the bathroom, never in the main areas of the house, and it’s considered disgusting to do so. Think of it as carrying a toilet brush out with you into the living room.
Medical Masks.

Seeing people walking around in medical masks is very common, even though there is no current threat of an epidemic. Many tourists become nervous when they see this, but there is no reason to worry. Rather then to ward off the frightening diseases that have long since passed the region (like the SARS scare a few years ago), masks are worn to isolate germs for minor illnesses, to minimize the risk of passing on colds, flus, and other small things to the other people around them. It’s especially common to see in office buildings, or anywhere that several people work together, and one person may be feeling a little under the weather.

This is one of the little considerate gestures I love about Japan, especially as I have plenty of experience on buses, trains, in offices, or waiting in line, where a random stranger will feel the need to use me as some kind of germ-block as he coughs violently onto my shoulder.

Remaining Unassuming.

There is one thing that is very important in Japanese society: conformity. Individuality is considered a threat to the social norm that is held so dear in Japan, and so not drawing attention to yourself is key. Don’t speak too loudly, don’t eat while on your way somewhere, don’t start coughing and sniffling loudly on a train, just try to be as unassuming as possible.
This is especially good advice because you are going to stick out anyway, so you will want to do all you can you minimize that, since the almost celebrity status of foreigners can be a little awkward, especially if you tend to be more on the shy side. From photos with strangers, to people calling to you from across the street, you will know people are looking at you, so you may find yourself trying to sink into the collar of your coat anyway.
Public Bathing.

I don’t mean stripping off and diving into a fountain. Japan is full of public bath houses, most separated by gender, and most homes have a communal bath outdoors as well. These are never for getting clean, rather they are to be used after you have cleaned in another area to relax, like a jacuzzi.
Always make sure you have scrubbed and rinsed well before you pop into one of these babies. Dirtying the water is beyond impolite, it’s just plain rude, as it shows you are not considering the sacred implications of the bath, or the comfort of those who will come after you.

Speaking English vs. Japanese.

It’s wonderful to know Japanese before your visit, as it is wonderful to know the native language of any country you end up in. However, chances are most of the locals will immediately assume you come from a place that speaks English as it’s main language, and they love to show you their own proficiency with the tongue, even if they barely know it. In the end, most will choose to use English rather then Japanese, and it’s best to go with it. After all, they are showing you hospitality by speaking your native (or they assume your native) tongue. What could be more flattering?
The Importance Of Safety.

The crime rate in Japan is extremely low, especially compared with other countries, and if your coming from the US or UK, shockingly so. From young children being allowed to run around unattended, to people sleeping in parks when they miss their train, to people just leaving things unattended or walking through the city late at night, it’s refreshing to see that amount of trust in a nation.

But don’t be fooled, the Japanese are very, very, very safety conscious, and have a serious concern and fear over crime, which is probably why the rate is so low. Just be aware that bad things to happen, so don’t get too cocky or over confident. Use the same vigilance you would anywhere else.

And there you have it, the ten things you have to know before visiting Japan. These are all extremely important customs, and violating them could be considered quite offensive, so always be aware of your actions, and willing to blend in with the society. If you are considerate, willing to learn, and friendly, you should get along just fine. So good luck, and enjoy Japan!

Atacama desert

If saw, visited and experimented already Sahara desert or the Death Valley inU.S. you must have been impressed about the tough conditions of life there, due to the extreme lack of moisture. Nevertheless, the world’d driest region is the Atacama Desert, lieing on the Pacific Coast of Chile, and bordering also Peru and Bolivia.

atacama_desertmapatacamadesert

I found Atacama desert amazing and worth to be visited. It really looks like the Planet Mars. It would be something really extraordinary feeling yourself like being on the Mars, but I don’t think you can during this life. Much easier, go and visit Atacama Desert, the soil and the climate is very similar to Mars! NASA performs tests of its extraterestrial vehicles in the Atacama Desert. There are more telescopes in the Atacama Desert (there are no raining clouds there!).

Atacama Desert is a 1000 km strip between the Andes and the Pacific coasts. In the Pacific the Humboldt stream is cold and produces no evaporation. On the other side, the Andes with peaks reaching 6 000 meters, don’t let the clouds coming from the continent. Thus, in some parts of Atacama falled no water drops between 1570 and 1971! In some parts of the desert it rains every 6-10 years due to El Nino, and the desert literally blossoms. On the coast, the fogg (camanchuca) facilitates the apparition of algae, lichens and cacti. Otherwise, the life is not posible, and nevertheless the man has been populated the area since old times.

Valle de la Luna, Atacama-W?ste, Chile

In the oasis of San Pedro de Atacama there is a village with 2000 inhabitants having a museum with some amazing artefacts, e.g. mummified bodies which are 7000 years old( the Chinchorro mummies). That means much earlier than the Egyptians! Inca Empire also left behind some traces, climbing the mountains and making sacrifices at 6000 meters heights.

Atacama Desert is rich on cooper, silver, gold and nitrates and caused a war between the neighboring countries. In the late XVIIIth and the early XIXth century were build more towns for mining the nitrates, and all these towns have been abandoned due the discovery of synthetic nitrates. Thus, there are many spectacular ghost towns in the Atacama Desert (Chacambuco, Santa Laura etc).

Besides, there are also other things to do and to admire in the Atacama Desert: emerald green lakes, geysers, active volcanoes, flamingos. Be very careful on the huge differences of temperatures between day (30 degrees Celsius) and night (- 15 degrees Celsius).

Very soon, the Dakar Rally (organized this year in Argentina and Chile) will go through Atacama Desert, and this is considered to be the most challenging part of the entire Rally, a major test for cars and people.

The hidden secrets of Eastern Island

By

The Eastern Island is one of the world’s most remoted and isolated places. It is a Pacific Island, also named Rapa Nui by its polynezian aborigines. It is 3600 km away from Santiago de Chile and stays under chilean jurisdiction under the name Isla de Pascua.

easterisland

Today the population island counts 1500 people. In the past, in the XVIth century, before the europeans discovered the island, the local population was of 15000 people. The first question about the Easter Island is who were its aborigines and where did they from? A posibility is that they have come from the other Pacific  islands during a more generations process. The other possible answer was that the locals came from the continental South America. This posibility was suported and proofed as posible by the notorious Thor Heyerdahl through a temerary expedition from Ecuador to Easter Island. The expedition was held exclusively with very rudimentary means, accesible to the people of precolonial times.

If you wanna reach easter Island, it is not so complicated nowadays, but still difficult: you must go to Santiago de Chile, where a jet can bring you safe on the island within a few hours. From Santiago you have also the posibility of taking a ship cruise up to the Easter Island . Once on the island, you can start your relaxing holidays so far from civilization in the town of Hanga Roa. You can bath in the Pacific and walk through this interesting island, which was in the past covered with some trees like toromiro. Why has toromiro extincted, through what ecological catastrophe or climate changes, is another unsolved questions about Eastern island.

easterislandahunaunauanakenabeacheasterislandranorarako

During your little walk on the island you will see a few unbelievable huge  stone statues, called maui. You are not drunk, they are real. Noone can explain up to now why are these stone giants there, and how have them been build. The statue are grouped in an Ahu. There are 3 Ahu available: Ahu Akivi, Aku Tungariki, Aku Nau Nau. You need at least 5 days to walk all the island trying to answer  all these challenging questions.

The rules of hitchhiking

Tags: , , , , , , ,
By

You can see the world from a totally different angle, if you are a hitchhiker. You might think that there aren’t many of these people moving around today. All you need to do is to browse the net for just a few minutes to find out how popular hitchhiking is even today. Of course, there are different kinds of people who take to hitchhiking and that too for a variety of reasons. There are some who just feel bitten by the travel bug and want to experience a little bit of adventure and fun on the road. There are some others who are determined to rough it out and see for themselves the country of their choice and be able live among the local people. There are some more who would be interested in doing the rounds of a few places seeking a spiritual peace that has hitherto eluded them.

If there is one common thread that unites all these people, it is the sense of adventure. They would like to see for themselves cities, towns, sanctuaries and every imaginable place, just as they are, without the interference of tourist guides or operators. It is a unique way of getting around from place to place. Of course, this is also a mode of travel that has its own problems.

In order to ensure that hitchhiking is a pleasurable experience and does not turn out to be a dangerous one, it is good to keep the following points in mind if you are planning such a trip:
• Get a road map of the places that you would like to visit. More importantly, make sure that you know how to use the map and get to your destination.
• Do a study of the place that you want to go to, before you actually venture out, so that you are not taken too much by surprise at every turn you make.
• Make sure you have very light gear so that you are able to travel with ease. Nobody would like to give you a ride, if they see you with a huge backpack that makes you look like a loaded mule trying to climb a mountain.
• Though it might be a little difficult to achieve, try to look as clean as possible. You need to understand that the person who is giving you a lift could decide against it, if you looked like your body had not seen water for the last one month. Body odour and lice are dangers that you need to deal with when you are on the road for a very long time.
• Carry your identity papers and your phone numbers with you. This is absolutely essential, especially when you are stopped by security agencies or the police for routine questioning and enquiry.
• Try not to get disheartened when your signs do not force people to stop. You must understand that it is very difficult for a person who is driving to stop, just because you are waving him down.
