Understanding Innovagest, the Rouge Anti-spyware Program

  • Related Articles
  • Related Q&A

First, let us talk about what rogue anti-spyware like Innovagest is and why it is bad. Rogue anti-spyware usually uses scare tactics, through pop-ups, to get you to go to a website to buy a “full version” of the software. These pop-ups are worded in such a way to scare the uninformed computer user, tricking you into thinking this Innovagest software is the only program that can get rid of your infection. Usually these pop-ups start after a Trojan gets on your computer. If you buy the software suggested by the pop-ups, you wind up infecting your computer further with spyware, adware and other malware, possibly opening yourself up to identity theft and outside sources accessing your bank account and personal information. This is why rouge anti-spyware programs like Innovagest are bad.

Once you buy and install the “full version” of the software, it digs in and will not let you use Windows’ Add/Remove Programs tool to take the program off your computer. Innovagest will run in the background and take advantage of your computer’s vulnerabilities to establish itself. Innovagest will then update itself and install other spyware and malware programs which will eventually bog down your computer to the point that it permanently freezes up.

Innovagest gets even worse. Innovagest isn’t just a rogue software program. It is a rogue software developer. The Innovagest malware comes as several different names. Antivirus 2008, Antivirus 2009, SpyDeface, XP Antivirus 2008, and Antivirus XP 2008 are all part of the Innovagest family. This is a company that has dedicated itself to ripping you off and infecting your computer--possibly taking part in identity theft, and definitely taking part in scamming you out of money. If you try to contact the Innovagest company, your email will bounce back to you as “user unknown.”

I have worked with computers since I was a child, so I’ve seen many, many, many malicious programs over the years. These rogue anti-spyware programs really get my blood boiling. Unless you are well informed it is easy to fall into the traps rogue anti-spyware programs like Innovagest set for you. Then you are stuck with spyware, malware, and adware on your computer bogging you down, stealing your information, and possibly permanently harming your computer.

There are solutions out there to remove and protect yourself from Innovagest and the Innovagest family of rogue anti-spyware programs. A good anti-spyware program will remove and protect you from these rogue programs.

How do you tell if you have found a good program or just another scam? First look to see if they have won any legitimate awards. If they have won any awards its highly likely they have won several awards, not just one. Research the awards and make sure the awards are real. After you have found a good anti-spyware program, it will remove all the spyware, adware and malware Innovagest put on your computer and protect your computer from being reinfected.

The MacAfee AVERT Stinger is a stand-alone utility which can be used to find and then remove specific worms and viruses. Please bear in mind that it should not be used instead of a full blown anti-virus application. It is designed to catch certain nasties, but you are strongly advised to have running on your computer full protection software. At the time of writing, the Stinger will hunt for literally hundreds of viruses, including Aardvark, Devil, Michelangelo, Franny and W32/Autorun.worm

The Warning Signs of Malware Monitor

By: Carl Atkinson | 08/01/2009
One of the latest in rogue anti-spyware, Malware Monitor was released on October 5, 2007. I would like to say it is in a class of its own, but I'd be lying. Malware monitor is a clone of so many programs that sound almost exactly alike. You have MalWarrior, MalwareAlarm, and Malpractice Monitor (okay, so I made the last one up, but watch for its debut soon!) Creating new names for these programs seems to be the only challenge, because they all function in the same manner.

Malware Patrol Pro Won't Keep You Safe

What exactly are rogue, or fake, anti-spyware programs like Malware Patrol Pro patrolling? They are out looking for your credit card information, Social Security number, bank account passwords, and browsing history. Don't be fooled by the clever disguise as the authority on the malware roaming the dark alleys of the Internet, keeping you safe. In actuality, you have just shaken hands with a corrupt system of professional con artists.

Internet Scams - International Modem Scam

By: Emily Banks | 07/01/2009
Think you're safe because you're dialling from your own modem on your computer? Sad to say, it may not be as safe as you think. Thousands of innocent surfers have become the victim of auto-diallers. The auto-diallers are downloaded on to your computer and reset your own modem configuration. This means they essentially knock out your own phone number - you'll probably notice a disconnection as it does so - and introduce the rogue one.

Micro Antivirus 2009 is not What it Appears to be

By: Carl Atkinson | 07/01/2009
When you encounter Micro Antivirus 2009, you need to run the other way. With the Internet being such an essential part of everyone’s lives these days, Internet scams are everywhere. These new programs such as Micro Antivirus 2009 are rogue anti-spyware programs that act as scanners and removers of malicious software (malware), but only serve a purpose of downloading their own malware onto your hard drive for their own profit.

Ms Antivirus Will Harm Your Computer

By: Carl Atkinson | 07/01/2009

Extra Antivir Has Horrible Extras

By: Carl Atkinson | 09/01/2009 | Security
I really don’t know what Extra Antivir pretends to offer beyond what actual antivirus programs do. I know what extras it does give. It gives spyware. To boot, the antivirus program isn’t remotely worth the trouble to have. First, let’s talk in terms everyone can understand. Money. It costs more to buy Extra Antivir than it does to buy many real programs. SpyZooka, for instance, is about half the price of Extra Antivir.

Dear Privacy Commander, What are You Commanding?

By: Carl Atkinson | 09/01/2009 | Security
Privacy Commander is of no use to anyone. In fact, with the growing awareness among average users about rogue security tools, this one could almost be called a no-brainer. It’s not as clever as some of the others, who discovered that pretending to be a Microsoft product makes it easier to slip under more people’s radar. Let’s look at it.

Feeling Insecure About Kvm Secure?

By: Carl Atkinson | 09/01/2009 | Security
The hugest threat to Internet security comes in the form of what most users need more than anything—anti-spyware software. Kvm Secure is another rogue anti-spyware program. It is hard to keep up with which ones are real and which ones are fake. Kvm Secure is a well designed piece of software from the same family as PcPrivacyCleaner. It is void of the typical grammar errors and lack of information that some rogue anti-spyware programs are guilty of utilizing.
